Voodoos defender signs with Greyhounds

Another member of the 2021-22 Powassan Voodoos has officially inked an Ontario Hockey League deal.

Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis announced the signing of 2020 13th Round Selection in the OHL Priority Selection, Caleb Van De Ven to a standard player agreement and education package with the club.

“Caleb is a smooth skating defensemen who had a great training camp following a big year with Powassan. We’re excited to have him work with our staff to continue to grow in all areas of his game, and take the next step in his development,” said Raftis in an OHL release.

Van De Ven, a 6.02, 171lb defenceman from Delaware, ON played last season with the Powassan Voodoos of the NOJHL. In 42 regular season games played Caleb recorded 9 goals and 23 assists (32 points).

“It’s an honour to play for such a well respected organization and it’s something I’ve been working towards for a long time. I look forward to working with the amazing staff and players here in Sault Ste. Marie to showcase a great season for the amazing fans and community we have here,” explained Van De Ven.

Chris Dawson, Voodoos GM, says van de Ven was a solid offensive performer for the team last year.

“Caleb is a gifted skater with tremendous lateral movement that reminded me a lot of John Klingberg,” said Dawson.

“Good luck to Caleb with a very good organization in the Soo.”

van de Ven joins Ryan O’Dell, Mike Levin, Rodion Tatarenko, Chase MacQueen-Spence and Alex Bradshaw as members of the 2021-22 team which signed OHL deals.
