Voodoos’ Forrest blanks Canadians

POWASSAN, Ont. – Powassan Voodoos netminder Garrett Forrest turned aside all 35 shots he faced to backstop his side to a 2-0 victory over the Rayside-Balfour Canadians Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Powassan Sportsplex.

The Voodoos notched the only tally they would need on this night late in the opening stanza as Tyler Gervais-Rolfe notched his fourth goal of the season with a minute to go in the frame.

It remained a tightly contested match-up through a scoreless middle session as Powassan took their 1-0 lead into the third period.

The home side added some insurance eight and a half minutes into the final stanza as Michael Silveri beat Rayside-Balfour starter MacKenzie Savard to round out the scoring.

Savard finished with 34 saves in defeat for the Canadians.

With the result, Powassan won for a third straight time raising their record to 17-2-0-0 while Rayside-Balfour slipped to 12-8-0-0.
