Voodoos’ Harland NOJHL point streak reaches 30 games

SUDBURY – There is arguably no hotter player in all of the 129-team Canadian Junior Hockey League than Powassan Voodoos rookie forward Steve Harland.

Skating in his initial campaign of Jr. A hockey for the first-year Voodoos in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, Harland has impressed mightily, including presently riding a remarkable  consecutive game point streak of 30 in succession.

The 18-year-old Scarborough, Ont., product has been a force all season long for Powassan as he leads his club in scoring while also sitting second overall in NOJHL production with 85 points on 41 goals and 44 assists in just 45 outings.

During the length of his streak, Harland has amassed 73 of those points having scored 36 times while setting up 37 others.

Included in the current run of the North Bay Battalion 2014 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection draft pick was a stretch early on where he tallied in nine straight outings and another where he found the back of the net in seven straight contests.

He has also registered multi-point efforts in 23 of the 30 match-ups skated in during his present streak.

Capping Harland’s worthwhile efforts is the fact that he is a rookie.

Taking a look at the offensive numbers achieved by the Powassan standout, he is matched in the entire CJHL only by the BCHL’s Brett Supinski of the Coquitlam Express when it comes skaters in their first season playing Jr. A.

The 19-year-old Supinski, who hails from Collegeville, Penn., has played 10 more times than the Voodoos standout totalling a remarkable 93 points on 46 markers along with 47 helpers in BCHL action to date.

Comparing the two stalwarts, it is Harland that holds the edge in per-game ratio in goals, assists and points at 0.91, 0.98 and 1.89 respectively compared to Supinski’s 0.84, 0.85 and 1.69 numbers.

The dynamic duo are runaway front runners in both of their leagues in terms of rookie scoring while also dominating the leaderboard in first-year prowess in all of the CJHL.

The following is the list of leading rookie point producers in each of the 10 leagues that comprise the CJHL:
