Justin Rousseau will be the Powassan Voodoos 10th captain in franchise history when the team hits the ice for play in the 2025-26 season, the club announced on Monday.
The 20-year-old Verner product netted 12 goals and a team high 30 assists for 42 points in 49 games last season.
“Being named captain is something that I don’t take for granted,” said Rousseau.
“Having the opportunity to represent the Voodoos and the community of Powassan is a privilege,” he said.
“Since becoming a Voodoo a few seasons ago, our goal as an organization has been to win a championship. This season, we have another chance to contend for a title and I am proud to lead this team in that direction.”
Rousseau and the Voodoos are looking to take a big step forward after a disappointing 2024-25 season which ended in a four-game sweep in the opening round of the playoffs to the Hearst Lumberjacks.
Peter Goulet, Voodoos head coach, recognized Rousseau’s leadership qualities as he named the third-year forward an alternate captain last year.
“In 2022-2023, Justin was captain of the North Bay Trappers U18 team and led his team to a Great North U18 championship and was the league’s MVP that season,” notes Goulet.
“Justin has been a warrior for our team. He has been one of our best face off men and has also scored some big goals for us over the past two seasons.”
Goulet believes Rousseau’s leadership goes well beyond the ice surface.
“Justin has showed great leadership over the last couple years,” he said.
“He’s always one of the first players to help out and one of the first guys to clean the room. He totally leads by example and we are excited to announce him as our team captain for the 2025-26 season.”
Rousseau will join prospects and teammates on July 5 to 6 at Voodoos summer prospects camp at Pete Palangio arena in North Bay.
