Voodoos sign 2 forwards

The Powassan Voodoos have added a pair of players with some skill and speed.

The Voodoos signed shifty 1996 birth year forward Dante Juris.

The Pickerington, Ohio product split the season 2013-14 season with the Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks of the GMHL (2 goals and 4 assists in 8 games) and the Topeka Roadrunners of the NA3HL ( 9 goals 9 assists in 45 games).

Voodoos head coach Scott Wray liked the energy he saw from Juris at the NOJHL expansion club’s first free agent camp back in July at Pete Palangio arena.

“Dante Impressed me with his overall play,” said Wray.

“He is the type of player that doesn’t run out of gas!  He will be relied on to be a top six forward for the Voodoos and also as an older player comes the responsibility of being a leader for the club,” added Wray.

Juris is excited to join the new Voodoos organization.

“It’s a great opportunity for me,” said Juris.

“It’s always nice to have the chance to play in a situation where you know that you are in the right place and can be a comfortable fit there.  I’m definitely looking forward to getting the ball rolling here in Powassan and I can’t wait to see how far it takes us.”

The Voodoos also added more experience by signing Brockville, Ontario product Hunter May.

The 1995 birth year forward played last season with the AHI Fighting Spirit of the Northern States Hockey League.

“Hunter was a player we didn’t know much about leading into our free agent camp,” said Wray.

“He earned a card on the team with his overall play.  He is a great skater and can really shoot the puck.  I believe with the right compliment of players around him, Hunter should have a breakout season with the Voodoos.”

May, who was arguably the strongest skater at the Voodoos camp, is thrilled about the opportunity.

“I’m excited to join the Voodoos this season because they are after pure development and I am thrilled to be apart of such a professional organization run by great people, it was an easy decision by far,” said May.

May and Juris will travel to Powassan for the start of training camp on August 22nd.
