The Powassan Voodoos signed another member of the 2026 championship Trappers team as defenceman Aydin Beharie will join the Voodoos, the club announced on Monday.
The 6’1″, 190-pound defender scored six goals and added 17 assists for 23 points in 33 regular-season games for the U18 Trappers last season.
The 17-year-old, who turns 18 in November, is very familiar with the Voodoos since his hometown is Powassan.
“I remember getting my first puck signed by a Voodoos player when I was only six years old,” said Beharie.
The 2024 draft pick of the North Bay Battalion is hoping to make an impact on the Voodoos blueline in 2026-27.
“I think I am a big 200-foot defenceman who can lock it down on defence while also providing some offence,” he said.
Chris Dawson, Voodoos GM, sees a lot of upside in the big defender.
“Aydin skates well for a big defenceman. He is physical but has some great offensive instincts as well. We are looking forward to seeing him bring the confidence he gained by winning a Great North U18 title to Powassan this fall,” said Dawson.
Beharie will join his new teammates on August 20 for the start of training camp.
