Golden Hawks soar past Voodoos to begin Cottage Cup

WASAGA BEACH, Ont. – The Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL) soared out to a big early lead and went on to down the Powassan Voodoos 8-1 Tuesday afternoon in Day 1 play at the Cottage Cup Showcase in Wasaga Beach.

Playing a pair of 20-minute periods, Trenton banged in five goals before the opening frame was half-way in to put the game away early.

They added another deep in the session, before Powassan’ Anthony Boyes converted on a man advantage, with assists credited to Sam Rivet and Dawson Coleman.

The Golden Hawks tacked on two more in the final session finish off the scoring.

Dalton Kane paced the Trenton attack with a goal and four helpers, while Kyloe Ellis notched a pair of markers and set-up two others.

Shots on goal favoured the Hawks by a 29-18 count with Brady Spry picking up the win and Miles Gordon suffering the loss.

The Voodoos return to Cottage Cup action Wednesday with a pair of contests on their docket.

They’ll take one the Leamington Flyers (OJHL) at 10:30 a.m. before facing off with German junior side Jungadler Mannheim at 4:30 p.m.
